During the Second World War, we saw that artists took a big place. As soon as the artists become aware of the policy of repression of the Germans their art becomes a form of resistance As Picasso one of the first resisted thanks to his works.
Some have taken refuge in the south, in the countryside, in the mountains, sometimes in hiding, sometimes simply in withdrawal from the world of art. Others were arrested, detained, deported to death camps, because they were Jews or suspected of Communist sympathies. A few finally showed complacency towards the Nazis... For the most part, whatever their living conditions, they continued to produce works of art generally marked by the tragic history of their time.
No matter the artists, art in World War II had something in common, such as dark tones, morbid subjects the purpose was to transcribe to denounce these years of conflicts but it was not to the taste of Hitler that is why was introduced the degenerated art which was the condemnation of modern art by the Nazis.
