This document is a REPORT from the international TV CHANNEL Al Jazeera English about anti-SLAVERY activist Harriet Tubman. In 2020, Harriet Tubman will REPLACE President Andrew Jackson on the $20 Dollar BANKNOTE. She was a fighter for FREEDOM.
She was a SLAVE born around 1822 on a Maryland PLANTATION who ESCAPED to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
After GAINING her own liberty she kept RETURNING to Maryland to FREE more slaves risking being CAPTURED and KILLED by slave OWNERS. Among her people she became known as MOSES as reference to Moses leading the Hebrews out of Egypt. She urged President ABRAHAM LINCOLN to HELP the slaves.
When the CIVIL WAR broke out, Harriet Tubman returned to the SOUTH as a spy for the UNION and led troops to battle against the CONFEDERACY
After war and the abolition of slavery, she didn’t stop fighting and CAMPAIGNED for women’s RIGHT to VOTE.
