1- A gap year, also known as a sabbatical year, is typically a year-long break before or after college/university during which students engage in various educational and developmental activities, such as travel or some type of regular work.
2- b. The British government has decided to pay for students under 24 years old, who have graduated from school and are struggling to get jobs to earn money to travel during their gap year. The idea is to pay graduates to go to countries such as India, Costa Rica or Nicaragua to work in communities and help build schools.
2-b. Some other reasons why the British government has decided to take such measures might be to help soon-to-be college students to gain work experience and different knowledge to be able to postulate for jobs and/or universities and schools. As if it said in the last paragraph “volunteering would help new graduates develop the communication and leadership skills that are so highly valued in the workplace”.
2- c. I can agree with the Minister’s statement because I believe this type of experience can be very rewarding for young adults. This measure could be a very useful tool for newly graduates since they won’t earn money as easily, with the kind of jobs that are available for them, since their work experience can be very restraint. It can also be quite beneficial for those countries in need of help to build schools for their own students to be able to learn.
