Bonsoir,
- A glass Ceiling is a metaphor often used in the work field to talk about the invisible barrier that prevents people, mostly from minorities, to rise to senior and more important positions. This means that glass ceiling is the reason why people can't use their full capacities and prevents them from reaching their full potential.
- According to the text, it's often and almost always associated with minority groups from different ethnicities, religions, sexualities...
- According to the text, the main cause of glass ceilings is just the result of an unconscious bias and underlying beliefs. Explaining why most people unfortunately don't realize the existence of a glass ceiling when they see one.
- To fight the inequalities created by glass ceilings, you can start by learning and knowing how to recognize them and identify one when there is in fact one, you can also learn about it more in detail and more in depth and finally you can try to open the discussion with your co-workers and superiors. If you try to do all 3 things, you might be able to change things or at least raise awareness.
Voila :)
