Since the death of George Floyd, the protests against police violence have taken on historic proportions. First, I will present the introduction to you, then secondly I will explain to you why the police should be abolished, thirdly, why I would explain to you why the police should not be abolished and finally a conclusion. Today we are going to talk about the work of the police which is described as the fight against crime. But yet we can observe that in recent years the police have in fact served to defend the property of the rich and powerful, while keeping poor people and people of color in poverty and despair. Yes, because the police criminalize colored skin and poverty. However the real question is: Is a future without a police possible? Before imagining an abolition of the police in society, one should also imagine and construct new ways of ensuring security and justice. The solutions we can imagine to act and reduce violence and suffering in society, without needing to involve the police. For example: by fighting against poverty, poor housing, social exclusion, and racism. No, because otherwise there is nobody to enforce the laws and then everyone will do whatever they want. I think we should reform rather than cut the police. However, the presence of police officers around the world is necessary to maintain law and order. For example: without the police, everyone would kill everyone. Maybe we have to tackle the way so law and order are enforced
