PETER'S STORY

Peter was 11 years old when he arrived in Kisumu, the third largest city in

Kenya. The physical abuse he suffered at the hands his father and mother-in-

law was so bad that he decided to take his chances alone, ecaping

home on the back of a trailer truck

He has already spent over a year sleeping rough in the city.

Luckily, he is not alone: Kisumu already had many homeless children

who offered him vital friendship and showed him how to find and sell scraps

of used metal.

But Peter's survival has been helped by another source too.  The

HOVIC project, funded by Comic Relief, aims to help children

like him get off the streets. They offer them a place to stay, eat,

and wash, as well as education and medical attention.

In the safety offered by these facilities, Peter and his friends do

not have to act like adults any more: he describes how they relax

and play together at HOVIC, children once again
