The Elizabethan Theatre, part 2









Elizabeth the First was the ------------------- of England between 1533 and 1603. She was the daughter of



Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn (who had her head cut off). Elizabeth I never married. England became very powerful under her control.



In the XVI th and XVII th centuries, there were many theatres. Plays written by William Shakespeare



were performed at the -------------------------- and in lots of other theatres and playhouses. Everybody



went to see the tragedies , historical plays and---------------------------------. The Nobles had the better



seats. They paid 5 d (5 pence) and the commoners stood in the pit. They put 1 penny in a -----------------

was no artificial lighting. But there were special -------------------------------- : smoke, fireworks, firing of
