> action passée antérieure à celle énoncée au past simple.

Simple past
> had (preterit de Have) + participe passé
1- Alex told me he had never met you.
2- Mr Adams had been in the garden for an hour when it started to rain.
3- Ann left the store as soon as she had bought the things she needed.
4- The lights went out the moment we had got into the movie theater.
5- I had just heard about the accident when Bill told me about it.
6- At 10 Betty put her book down, she had finished reading it.
7- Hardly had the Scotts bought their car when it had a flat tire.
8- The driver stopped his car when the lights changed to red.
ou
The driver had stopped his car when the lights changed to red.
Le sens est légèrement différent.
9- I saw this movie last night. My friends had already seen it.
10- When we went out the wind had stopped.
11- Judy throught she had won the lottery but she hadn't.
12- When the policeman blew his whistle the driver stopped his car.
13- They went to see the play because they had heard it was good.
14- He wondered whether he had left his wallet at home.

Pour certaines phrases comme la 8 ou la 12, je pense que les actions sont simultanées. Pour la 8, j'ai mis les 2; pour la 12, je ne vois pas quelle action pourrait être faite en premier...
Quand le policier a sifflé (dans son sifflet) le conducteur a arrêté sa voiture...
J'ai donc mis le simple passé aux deux verbes. (Éventuellement had blown ???)
Maintenant que je t'ai expliqué, à toi de voir si je ne me suis pas trompé...
